Description François Baby (1733 - 1820) came from a family of fur traders. His father and grandfather, Jacques Babie, had been successful in the business and his eldest brother Jacques and other family members were active in the same business.

The Baby collection includes documents of various kinds: family, commercial, military, legal, political, historical and other.

The microfilm reel C-4747, however, only contains a typewritten index, in English and French alternately, describing the contents of the collection without offering anything from the collection itself.

William Howard of the Township of Howard in the Western District Yeoman Stating that he has been granted under a Land Board Certificate 200 acres of land being part of Lot No. 5 on the River Thames in the said Township of Howard--And praying for a grant of a vacant piece of land in rear of the said Lot  containing about 50 or 60 acres   Recom'd

Recommended that the Petitioner obtain a grant of the space of vacant and grantable land mentioned in the Report of the Surveyor General of the 25th of July 1809 hereunto annexed, consisting of about Eighty acres, subject to Regulations of 6th July 1804.

Meredith-Goodall Site In Ontario

THE MEREDITH-GOODALL SITE [Source (links added)]

"This site...situated on a Berrien sand knoll...is located on part of Lots 5 and 6, *Front Concession, Howard Township, Kent County. The neutral to alkaline Thames clay loam underlying the acidic Berrien sand of this site...was laid down during the glacial lakes Warren and Whittlesey stages."

*[Elsewhere it was noted that the 1st Concession and Front Concession were interchangeable terms for the same location]

"The knoll was a detached portion of the terminal end of the old Thames River delta, formed when the mouth of this river emptied into these lakes a few kilometres east of the site. At present, the Thames River flows some 300 m north of the site and is fed by the Julien Drain, a modern reworking of the old Ardwell Creek...".

"This [excavating] resulted in the recovery of additional ochre and copper-stained human bone (some cremated), portions of perforated marine shell "gorgets", copper beads, a worked antler tine, Middle and Late Woodland pottery, and a considerable amount of animal bone, some of which was attributed to domestic animals."

"...Meredith-Goodall site notes and to have traced down and obtained access to nearly all the recovered material, now located at the Chatham-Kent Museum and three private collections."

Lenover Cemetery is located on Lot 4, Howard Township, Concession 1 (see Google Maps); Williams Cemetery, on Lot 6.  Lot 5 was once owned by my ancestor, William Howard.
