Christopher Bush was entering land in Kentucky as early as August 9, 1781, as the Possessioners Report Book for Nelson County under that date contains the following memorandum:

"Christopher Bush enters 200 acres of land on a treasurers warrent No. 5166 on Hardin's Creek, including a mill seat."

The commissioner's tax books for Hardin County reveal interesting facts about the economic conditions of the Bush family in their early experience in Kentucky. When Sarah Bush was five years old in 1793, her father listed for taxation 495 acres of land, three horses, and seven cattle. Ten years later when Sarah was fifteen, Christopher Bush was in possession of 1020 acres of land in Hardin County and 1000 acres in Breckenridge County.

The following year, on October 14, 1794, Christopher purchased the following lots in Elizabethtown, Hardin County: numbers 28, 31, 33. His son, Samuel, purchased lots 35 and 37, and Isaac Bush, another son, bought lot number 38.

Nathan Bush & Family In Austin County, Texas

The Nathan W. Bush in the deeds below was the 2nd great-grandfather of my niece and nephew through their father's side of the family (not mine).

Travis's son lived with the David Ayers family and this said that Travis wrote his last letter from the Alamo to David Ayers, a letter that started with "take care of my little boy..."

29 December 1849 Samuel Marshal to WILLIAM T. BUSH $56.00, land being on waters of Caney Creek being 22 acres. Witnesses: None (Deed - p. 67)

N. Bush was the administrator of the estate of George Graves and there were deeds (and probate documents) involving Bush regarding his duties as administrator.

In Deed Record Book B there was a statement at the beginning of the book regarding the Republic of Texas, County of Austin...believed to be genuine claims.... . Listed among those with legitimate claims was "N. W. Bush, March 29, 640 acres... ."

While extracting the above information from the book, I thought that William T. Bush who was part of deeds above was William Tandy Bush, the brother of Nathan Bush. W. T. Bush and family were in Austin Co., Texas, in the 1850 census.

The Montgomery-Bush Family Cemetery is on N.W. Bush's land "as part of the “league of lands granted to James Steefshinsen [Stephenson]" according to this site.

Who Signed Your Deeds?

Philip P. Bush, b. 1700 d. 1772, married Mary Bryan in 1710. She died sometime between 1750-1772. An interesting note on Philip Bush is that in the records of Orange County, Virginia, on March 6, 1745, "William Bryan of St. Thomas Parish, Orange County, sold to Philip P. Bush of the same, in consideration of five shillings and the rent of one ear of Indian corn yearly, at the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, when lawfully demanded" it goes on to state the amount of land and so forth, but what is interesting is that the deed was witnessed by Zachary Taylor, grandfather of President Zachary Taylor, and the other witness was James Madison who became president in 1808. James Madison was also a witness for Philip P. Bush’s will. [Excerpt from this site]

According to this website, Presidents Zachary Taylor and James Madison were second cousins.
