Nathaniel Hughson of Barton, Yeoman. Stating, that his name has been suspended the U.E. List.  That he resided in Dutchess County previous to the American War.  That he joined the Royal Standard...Major Ward's Corps until the year 1782...on board a Privateer where he served 'til he was wounded the close of the same year. That he remained in Newe York until the Treaty of Separation in 1783, when he went to New Brunswick where he remained until 1797... .  Pray...restored to the U.E. List.

2453. Henry Richmond 7 (Stephen 6 , Edward 5, Benjamin,4, Edward 3, Edward 2 , John 1) was born in Hillsdale, N.Y., September 5, 1796, and died October 9, 1851. He married Hannah Van Hoesen. He was a merchant, and lived in Claverack, N.Y.

— 5258. Rachel 8 , born about 1822 ; married Robert Nephus, and resided in Claverack, N. Y.
— 5259. Philetus 8 , deceased in 1858.
— 5260. Phidelia 8 , married Whitney, and resided in Poughkeepsie, N. Y.

John Backus In Dutchess Co., New York

An excerpt from the New York, Land Records, 1630-1975Dutchess Grantor index 1718-1950 B:

In the Index:  1787   John    Backus    Ann Chambers   10-359

And the deed:  John Backus to Ann Chambers....10-359

"Know all Men by these presents that I, John Backus of Sheffield, in the County of Great Barrington in the Province of Massachusetts, for and in consideration....quit claim.....convey to...Ann Chambers of New York....in the county of Dutchess and Province of New York containing one hundred and twenty-five acres more or less it being the northwest quarter of Lot Number 61.....

From Our County And Its People..., Saratoga County, New York:
*In 1770 Rev. Eliphalet Ball, with his three sons— John, Stephen and Flamen— and several members of his congregation, removed from Bedford, N. Y., and settled in the vicinity of Academy Hill. Mr. Ball was induced to settle here by a donation of 500 acres of land from the proprietors of the five-mile square.  His father and Washington's mother, Mary Ball, were first cousins. 

The John Backus referred to here was from Great Barrington.

Carpenters In Dutchess County

Here is the first page where Carpenters were found in the New York, Land Records, 1630-1975 Dutchess Grantor index 1718-1950 C.  

William Carpenter, the son of George Carpenter, was born about 1805 in Dutchess County, New York.  My grandmother's half-sister, Ellen Johnston, married a descendant of William Carpenter who relocated to Atlas Township in Genesee County, Michigan.

After giving the index a quick glance, nothing family-related jumped out at me, though it deserves a second look before determining whether or not there's anything relevant in the index.

Here's a deed concerning Carpenters in Dutchess County that I stumbled across while looking for something else.  Don't know if there's any relationship to the Carpenters who eventually of Atlas Twp.
