Being the same premises conveyed by Mary Howard to James Dixon by deed (Book A2, Page 554) dated April 11th, 1844 or 1849, recorded at the Recorder of Deeds, Jefferson Co., Ohio....being the ...undivided fifth parts of said premises...their right & title of dower.....
There was no readable date on the document that I could discern. I checked the library catalog at the
FHL and found that Volume "M-2" for Jefferson Co., Ohio, was on FHL Microfilm #895965, described as v. M2-N2, 1864-1866. Based upon that information, the deed above was recorded in
1864. The deed was found by me at one of two places; the
Ohio Historical Society in Columbus, Ohio, or the
Public Library of Steubenville & Jefferson Co., Ohio. (Both have the deeds and I have copied deeds at both places).
Joseph Averick was age 35, b. England and living with William Averich/Averick, age 55, b. England, who was in the coal business, and Jane Averich, age 35, b. Ireland, in 1860 Ohio census, Jefferson Co. (
footnote.com). Joseph was with his own family in Steubenville, Ohio, in
1870 (wife Elizabeth (
Dixon) Averick and children William, Thomas and Joseph.
Deed "M-2", Page 173, mentioned that the above-mentioned property was conveyed by Mary Howard to James Dixon ca April 1849. In
1850 James Dickson, age 62, a weaver born in England, as well as the other Dicksons, Jane, age 64, Susanna, age 26, Jane, age 24, and Elizabeth, age 21, were living in Jefferson Co., Ohio.
In 1860 (
footnote.com) James Dixon, age 73, Susanna Dixon, age 37, and Lizzie Dixon, age 25, all born in England, were living with John Shubert, age 50, b. Ireland, and Harriet Shubert, age 31, b. Ohio.
Jane Dickson married James "Hold" on 1 January 1852.
Elizabeth Dickson married Joseph Averick on 18 Aug 1864.
Susanna Dickson married John Schofield on 29 Sept. 1864.
Sarah Jones, the first "grantor" listed, was the person in whom I was interested. Jim's great-great grandmother was Sarah Jones, b. 1830 in Jefferson. Co., Ohio. Her parents were William & Susan (Styer) Jones. Sarah married James White in Jefferson Co., Ohio, on 25 Apr 1852. Sarah & James White moved to Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania.
