The Rice Farm

Apparently the Rice farm was not sold until 1896, 37 years after Ann (Hinds) Rice's death.

The heirs of Arthur L. Rice (son of Ransom and Ann Rice) sold Ransom's farm in Franklin County, Tennessee, in 1896 for $175.00 to James A. Rogers and his wife, Viola.  The land included land transferred to Ransom Rice by David Rice in open court, May term 1820.  Ransom Rice was in the county on February 16, 1820.

Ransom Rice's farm is Rock creek of the Elk River, 200 acres of land granted to Ransom S. Rice entered in Franklin County, Tennessee, records #1470 December 26, 1829.

The farm was comprised of three tracts of land, 100 acres in Grant #7494, 18 acres given to Ransom by *David Rice in 1820 and 25 acres that were conveyed to Arthur L. Rice by Alfred Burt, December 17, 1860.  *David Rice's 18 acres were on Rock Creek of the Eagle River.

In October of 1840 Ransom Rice died leaving no will.

Was Fielding Rice a relative of my ancestor, Ransom Scroggins Rice, who both lived in Franklin County, Tennessee?  I don't believe so, but don't know for sure.

Document #24342
John C. Swinney and Eva Swinney, husband and wife, of Town of Moweaqua, County of Shelby, State of Illinois
&
H.L. Hoskinson of Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., MN
Lot 14, Block 3, Oakland Place....

Since I was camped nearby I stopped into the Macon County Recorder of Deeds office and did a little research. I was hoping to find Eva & John Swinney as "grantees" in a deed that documented their former residence as Saline Co., Illinois. However, I learned from the deeds above that their previous residence was in Shelby County, Illinois. If I wanted to find a document with them in Saline County, Shelby Co. was probably the place to find it (unless there were other moves in between). After living in Macon Co., Eva & John Swinney moved to Mount Pulaski, Logan Co., Illinois, where they died. [Eva was my great-grandmother's sister]
