B. B. Richmond & The First Governor of Minnesota In A Detroit, MIchigan, Deed

The deed abstracts below are from a book of Early land transfers, Detroit and Wayne County, Michigan.

Wayne Co., MI, Deeds
73-684
21 June 1858
Henry H. & Sarah J. Sibley of Mendota, MN
To
Benjamin B. Richmond of Detroit
Lot 72, part of Park Lots 76, 77, 78, and 79 in Detroit
Witnesses: Charles S. Adams and H. N. Walker

Here are two blog entries on my "Richmonds and Connected Lineages" blog featuring Benjamin Barton Richmond & his wife, Mary (Vernor) Richmond. Benjamin was a Mayflower descendant and Mary was the sister of James Vernor, creator of Vernor's Ginger Ale.

In 1860 Henry H. Sibley of Mendota, Minnesota, the deed grantor, was a 48 year old lawyer who was born in Michigan (Sarah , his wife, was 35 and born in Pennsylvania). His real estate was worth $100,000 and his personal estate was $90,000. He was the first governor of the state of Minnesota!

It is possible that H. N. Walker who witnessed the deed was Hiram Walker, the distiller, age 53 in 1870, whose real estate was worth $200,000 that year and his personal property was valued at $50,000.
