A biography of Stilwell Heady who lived on Ashe's Creek:


"He [James Heady, father of Stilwell] and his neighbors built block houses, one on the north bank of Ashe's creek and one on the south and west of Bloomfield.  These forts were the rallying points in their skirmishes with the Indians...in which the Edwards, Stones, Guthries, Merifields, Bemises, McKays, Murrays, McCloskys, Davis, Wakefields, Eastburns, Wootens, Browns, Hustons, Ashes and Headys took part."
