The Deposition of Thomas Polk...to establish John Ash's improvement which entitled him to a presumption of one thousand acres of land on Ashes Creek in the said county of Nelson and for other purposes...the 20th day of December 1794 We did assemble on the 19th day of September 1795 and there at the improvement and Spring this deponent being sworn sayeth that in the month of April 1776 he in company with Isaac Cox and others saw and helped sd John Ash make an improvement near the spring where the sd Ash now lives and believes that by sd improvement he sd Ash obtained his presumption and that in the year 1781 in March this deponent was at the same place and saw corn stalks standing that must have grown in the summer 1780..... .
