Fort Myers presents an attractive aspect to the approaching voyager by river, for as yet the natural waterway affords the only means of communication with the outside world. Several wharves extend from the shore to the edge of the channel. The houses are for the most part shaded by tropical trees, some of them not found elsewhere in Florida.
