Territory Ceded By Georgia

Unlike her sister states, which had preceded her in the Union, Alabama was settled and established under the auspices of the United States Government, for, as we have seen, the Mississippi Territory was ceded to the Government by Georgia on April 24, 1802. Shortly after this land was ceded to the Government by Georgia, it became the Mississippi Territory, and was accordingly provided with a territorial government.
