...Mr. [Isaac] Van Fossen was born at Livonia, Livingston county, New York, on July 24 1826 and is a son of Isaac and Mary Codding Van Fossen.... .  The father and his elder brother John owned large mills at Livonia, New York, and were the most prominent men in that locality. Through the failure of banks in 1829 they lost their business and property and then came to Michigan. [Source]
