Found the property description sketch for the Clendenins on or near the Haw River in Orange County, NC, at the North Carolina Archives a few years ago -- when/if I find the source it will be noted.
UPDATE: Thanks to an alert reader, this suggestion has been made in the "comments" section:
For what its worth, I am not sure when this map was created, but this does not look like the Haw River in Orange County. It looks like Haw Creek in Alamance County before it flows into Haw River. Specifically I think it is the portion of Haw Creek between the River and Hwy 54 south of Graham. Alamance county was formed out of Orange County in 1847 (or so). Good luck.
That was a terrific piece of information -- now perhaps I can find the property on a modern day map.
Now I need to find the source -- if it was part of a deed prior to 1847, the property was probably part of Orange Co., NC (per document), now Alamance Co.
Here's a link to the 1800 Census of the area that enumerates the Clendenins.
